Atlanta, January 28, 2026 — Lani Wong, a prominent Democratic organizer who helped mobilize voters behind Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock's historic victories, announced her endorsement of Geoff Duncan in Georgia's Democratic gubernatorial primary, lending significant support to the former Republican lieutenant governor's crossover campaign.
The endorsement followed a recent meet-and-greet at Wong's home, where she introduced Duncan to neighbors and community members. Wong chairs the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Chinese Americans and has been active in Georgia politics for over four decades.
“There is no other choice but to win the next election, and Geoff Duncan is the best person in the race to do just that,” Wong said. “He had the courage to stand up against Donald Trump and will continue to stand up for all Georgians as the next governor.”
Duncan, who broke with his party to challenge Trump's claims about the 2020 election and refused to participate in efforts to overturn Georgia's results, switched his party affiliation to seek the Democratic nomination. He faces a competitive primary field in his bid to become Georgia's first Democratic governor in nearly three decades.
“Lani has opened her home to me and my family, and has become a great friend,” Duncan said. “We are building a coalition of people across backgrounds and party lines to work to turn the Governor's office blue.”
Duncan's campaign centers on expanding Medicaid, reducing costs for healthcare, childcare and housing, and public safety. His candidacy represents an unusual test of whether Democratic primary voters will embrace a former Republican who positioned himself as a Trump critic.
Wong's endorsement could prove valuable in mobilizing Asian American and Pacific Islander voters, a growing demographic in Georgia's changing electorate.
