Atlanta, August 26, 2024 – Congresswoman Lucy McBath leads a coaltion of Georgia lawmakers and civil right leaders at the State Capitol urging Governor Brian Kemp to remove three members of the Georgia State Election Board.
Rick Jeffares, Janelle King, and Dr. Janice Johnston were accused of violating the state's Code of Ethics and Open Meetings Act.
Controversy was focused on the decision by majority of the Republican Board members on the procedures for certifying results on election night.
At the press conference, Senator Nabilah Islam and Rep. Sam Park also argued that the Board members actions were deliberate attempt to interfere with the integrity of Georgia's elections and to advance the Trump agenda.
Congresswoman McBath and the lawmakers at the press conference all call on Governonr Vrian Kepm to take immdediate action as it risks jeopardizing the state's democracy.
A spokeperson from the Governor Kemp's office confirmed receiving the complaint and said the office is seeking clarification from the Attorney General office.
The decision on the matter is critical as the election is about 70 days away.
