October 3, 2022, Chamblee – Thirteen GOP Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) candidates are officially on record running for various political seats in Georgia this year. Eleven AAPI GOP candidates became nominees for various offices after the primary election including the primary run-off. The GOP candidates represents a wide range of communities in Georgia, including Bangladeshi, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Iranian, Korean, and Vietnamese diasporas.
AAPI GOP Candidates Association of Georgia, a new organization was established for conservative AAPI individuals who aspire for political offices.
“I was so inspired by this breakthrough of AAPI participation in running for public offices, particularly as conservative Republicans. Hoping to harness this energy and momentum, I started contemplating to organize all the AAPI GOP candidates in this State into an organization to provide a forum for past candidates offer support and advices to the new comers, as well as a venue to keep all of them continuing to be engaged, and even more importantly, bring our diverse AAPI communities together through the connections of the candidates from their respective communities,” said Garry Guan, who had previously ran as State Senate District 5 in 2010, who lead the formation of this new organization.
The organization held its first meeting at the Yifan Teaching Kitchen in Johns Creek on August 23, 2022. The By-Law of the AAPI GOP Candidates Association of Georgia was passed and adopted unanimously by the attendees. The meeting also elected Charlice Byrd as the Chair, Jacqueline Tseng, the Vice Chair, and Tess Redding, the Secretary/Treasurer of the new organization. The new organization’s mission is to focus on helping AAPI GOP Candidates to win their elections.
At a luncheon meeting in Chamblee, Commissioner Tim G. Echols congratulate the current AAPI GOP Nominees for this upcoming November 8th election and shared his experiences in running a campaign for public offices. Commissioner Echols made the first financial contributions to show his support for the newly formed organization,
