A hidden gem is located in a shabby, run-down strip mall located in College Park. A good friend introduced this hole-in-one restaurant located near the Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Run by a hardworking Laotian entrepreneur couple who brings authentic Thai and Lao cuisine to the scene.
The place is filled with traditional decoration and a functional layout of dining tables.
A must-try is the Lard-Na-Moo, rice noodles stir-fried with brown gravy. The noodles are fresh and tender pork slices served with fresh gai-lan vegetables.
A popular dish is the traditional Laotian combo tray ($30.95) is served with an order of spicy papaya salad, five flavored wings, and a small basket of sticky rice.
Another dish worthy of trying and often unavailable at other Laotian restaurants is Kapoon Noodles ($17.95). Served in a rich red curry coconut broth along with a mix of vegetables and chicken or fish. This dish is typically available only in private homes and often involves hours of cooking preparation.
The spice Lao pork sausages filled with herbs ($12.95) are grilled to perfection and served with fresh chillis along with fresh cabbage.
The service is friendly and attentive. Expect a large crowd, especially on weekend dinner nights. The best time to visit is on weekdays when there are fewer crowds.
There are several other signature dishes that I must try on my return visit including their Deep Fried Basil Snapper, Basil Mussles, and steamed catfish nuggets wrapped in banana leaves.
It is worth your effort for an hour’s drive for folks driving from the northern part of Atlanta.
Owner Keo has expressed hope to open a second location to serve her customers from the northern part of town, especially in Gwinnett County.
