Doraville, August 22, 2025 – In a significant leap forward for its community-centric vision, the City of Doraville has officially greenlit the design for a groundbreaking new municipal complex, propelling its long-awaited Downtown Redevelopment into its next active phase. This landmark project, proudly named The People’s Building, is designed to be more than a city hall—it is envisioned as the vibrant, beating heart of one of Metro Atlanta’s most diverse communities.
Designed by McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, The People’s Building will seamlessly blend government services with cultural and creative spaces. The facility is set to include a new City Hall, the Doraville Library, creator studios for local artists and entrepreneurs, a dedicated private event space, and a café and restaurant venue—a deliberate design choice to foster a constant flow of community interaction and engagement.
“This approval is more than an administrative step; it is a promise to our residents for a gathering place that truly reflects the dynamic and creative spirit of Doraville,” said Mayor Joseph Geierman. “While we ask for patience during construction, we are building a modern, vibrant city center that will serve and unite our community for generations to come.”
To prepare for this new chapter, construction will commence with the temporary closure of Park Avenue, beginning Monday, August 25. The site of the former municipal buildings, which for decades housed the core of the city’s civic life, will be prepared for demolition. Clear detour signage will be posted, and drivers are advised to plan for additional travel time.
The demolition marks a poignant turning point, closing the book on the familiar structures that have served generations of residents. Yet, it powerfully signals Doraville’s commitment to a future-focused transformation. The broader Downtown Redevelopment plan aims to create a more connected, walkable, and thriving urban core, designed to benefit long-standing residents, attract new businesses, and honor the city’s unique international character.
The People’s Building stands as the cornerstone of this vision, poised to become a central hub where government, culture, and community converge, celebrating the diversity that defines Doraville.
