Japanese Consulate in Atlanta Honors Emperor Naruhito’s Birthday with Diplomatic Celebration

A distinguished guest list gathered for the occasion, including the the Consul General of India, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea, the Director General of TECO, diplomatic and consular officials, state legislators, and key figures from Georgia’s business and community sectors.

Buckhead, Feb. 27, 2025 — The Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta marked the birthday of Emperor Naruhito with an elegant reception at the residence of Consul General Mio Maeda. The event, known as Tennō Tanjōbi, is a cherished public holiday in Japan, honoring the reigning emperor.

A distinguished guest list gathered for the occasion, including the the Consul General of India, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea, the Director General of TECO, diplomatic and consular officials, state legislators, and key figures from Georgia’s business and community sectors.

In his remarks, Maeda acknowledged the enduring ties between Japan and the United States, paying special tribute to former President Jimmy Carter’s role in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Georgia and Japan.

Rep. Teri Anulewitz, former chair of Georgia’s Legislative Japan Caucus, also addressed the attendees, reflecting on the deep-rooted friendship and economic partnership between the two regions.

Guests enjoyed an array of Japanese delicacies, along with a sake tasting, while several Japanese manufacturers with operations in Georgia showcased their products and innovations. The evening served as both a cultural celebration and a reaffirmation of the strong ties between Japan and the Peach State.
