Duluth, Dec 20, 2020 – Congresswomen-elect Young Kim and Michelle Park Steele from California met with Asian Americans and Korean reporters at a press conference held at a restaurant.
Both Congresswomen-elect of Korean ethnicity and won their respective seats in the Nov 2020 election. Steele won the 48th constituency in California by defeating incumbent Democrat Harley Luda. Young Kim defeated incumbent Gil Cisneros for the California District 39 House seat.
“We are here to campaign to save America. I have a passion to help small business. The two Georgia senators are business people and they understand small business challenges. They are inclusive people and to unite all of us including Asian Americans,” said Congresswoman-elect Michelle Park Steele in her remarks.
Both Congress-women elect are in Georgia to help rally supporters and Asian Americans to vote for Senator David Perdue and Senator Kelly Loeffler in the Jan 5th runoff.
“We also need a balanced government, The next Congress will be controlled by the Democrats and we need the Senate to be led by Republicans in order to hear both sides of views,” adds Congresswoman-elect Steele.
“Asian Americans will be the deciding votes in the Senate races. We must get every Asian Americans to come out to vote for the Republicans,” said Steele.
Kim is a former state representative who was seen by Republicans as the heir apparent to the former retiring congressman for the 39th, Ed Royce, for whom she worked as a top aide. She narrowly defeated in the 2018 midterm election by Navy veteran Gil Cisneros. The 39th Congressional District spans parts of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties, and includes the cities of Chino Hills, Fullerton and Buena Park. The population is almost evenly split between Asian, Latino and white residents.
“Michelle and I are here to lend our voice to support the two Senators who are fighting for our lives in the Senate. We both are thankful to Mr. Sunny Park who is instrumental in bringing us here from California,” said Congresswoman-elect Young Kim in her opening remarks.
“We need the two seats in the Senate to keep the check and balance in the government. We need to hold the next administration accountable,” adds Kim.
She also urged young Asian Americans and Korean Americans to better understand the issues that affects their life and future. Kim believes that the two Georgia incumbent senators will protect the interest of Asian Americans and small business owners.
“We engaged young people especially college and high school students to understand the Republicans mission. We engaged them to be involved in the process early on. During the pandemic, the young people are very instrumental in our campaigning efforts as we did everything virtually. Their technical savvy skills help us tremendously in our outreach,” explains Congresswoman-elect Kim.
Sunny Park, a successful entrepreneur and longtime leading Republican advocate in the Korean Americans community were among the organizers of the event. Garry Guan, Rick Desai and Tim Le are amongst the Republican advocates in outreaching to the Asian American voters.
“In my personal opinion, we are moving fast towards socialism in this country. They tend to give handouts and its free. They are using it as baits to get people to vote for them.” said Sunny Park in his remarks.
