Georgia Lottery Winner Nets $1M as State Marks $30B Education Milestone

The winning ticket matched all five white balls (5, 18, 26, 47, 59) but missed the red Powerball of 1. Similar million-dollar tickets were sold in California and Illinois.

Atlanta, December 2, 2024 – A Powerball ticket purchased at a Campbellton Road Publix has won $1 million in Monday night's drawing, as Georgia celebrates a historic education funding achievement.

The winning ticket matched all five white balls (5, 18, 26, 47, 59) but missed the red Powerball of 1. Similar million-dollar tickets were sold in California and Illinois.

With no jackpot winner, Wednesday's prize has grown to $775 million—the eighth-largest in Powerball history—with a $362.5 million cash option.

$30 Billion for Education
The announcement coincides with Governor Brian Kemp's declaration that the Georgia Lottery has generated more than $30 billion for education since 1993. A ceremonial check was presented during Friday's Georgia-Georgia Tech game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

“Since 1993, Georgia students from Pre-K to college have been set up for success through the programs funded by the lottery,” said Kemp, who was joined by First Lady Marty Kemp, University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue, and university presidents.

The most recent quarterly transfer of $414.8 million pushed total education funding to $30.2 billion, marking the 10th consecutive year exceeding $1 billion in annual proceeds.

Impact by the Numbers
2.25 million+ students have received HOPE Scholarships
2.2 million+ four-year-olds have attended Georgia's Pre-K program
$30.2 billion total education funding since 1993

Georgia Lottery CEO Gretchen Corbin credited players, retailers, lawmakers and partners for the milestone. “Every dollar raised contributes to Georgia's HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K Programs with a wide-reaching impact for students, families and communities,” she said.

Recent Georgia Lottery Success
The $1 million win follows remarkable recent success for Georgia lottery players. Less than two weeks ago, a Mega Millions ticket sold at a Publix in Newnan won the state's largest-ever prize—$980 million—which remains unclaimed. On November 22, another $1 million Powerball ticket was sold at a Publix in Duluth.
