Ashwin Ramaswami Launches Campaign For GA SD-48 Against Indicted Election Denier

Ashwin Ramaswami is launching his campaign for the Democratic nomination for State Senate in the 48th district.

Johns Creek, January 9, 2024 – Ashwin Ramaswami is launching his campaign for the Democratic nomination for State Senate in the 48th district. With $108,000 already secured, Ramaswami’s campaign launches with robust community and financial backing.

Ramaswami was born and raised in the district and is running to represent every voice in the community. Ashwin aims to bring a diverse and steady voice to the State Capitol in a time of high partisanship and political polarization. He has worked under both Democratic and Republican presidential administrations on securing our elections and safeguarding the critical cybersecurity infrastructure that powers the American economy. By contrast, Shawn Still was indicted in Georgia for attempting to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results–actions that have no room in the 48th district.

“As a lifelong resident of this district, I understand the challenges we face and opportunities we have for growth. I am committed to bringing inclusive, informed, and forward-thinking leadership to our State Senate,” said Ramaswami. “We deserve representation that reflects our values, responsible stewardship of our tax dollars, and someone who works tirelessly for the betterment of every community member–unlike Shawn Still’s extremism and pending criminal charges while in office, reflecting his self-interest and unethical behavior unfitting of a public servant. The time for change is now, and that’s why I’m running for State Senate in the 48th.”

Ramaswami’s commonsense campaign contrasts starkly with Still’s extremism. While Still has been charged with allegedly violating the state’s RICO Act, impersonating a public officer, forgery, false statements and writings, and more, Ramaswami is fighting to lower costs for all families, increase economic and business opportunity, expand healthcare access, and preserve, protect, and defend democratic institutions for everyday Georgians. And while the Georgia GOP has supported limiting reproductive rights, Ramaswami stands firmly for preserving and protecting them.

Ramaswami will bring a fresh perspective and energy to the state legislature backed by deep technical and policy expertise. Ashwin would break barriers as the first member of the Indian American and Hindu American communities in the Georgia state legislature. He would be the first Gen Z State Senator in Georgia and the only Georgia state legislator with both a computer science and a law degree.
