Atlanta, March 3, 2021 – Alex Wan was confirmed as the new Chair of the Board of Registration and Elections to replace Mary Carole Cooney who resigned due to health reasons. Mr. Wan was nominated by Fulton County Chairman Robb Pitts and confirmed by a 5 to 0 vote.
Chairman Pitts stated that “Mr. Wan is the ideal candidate to follow Mary Carole Cooney. He is a true professional. He understands the electoral process. He has political experience. He is level headed and most importantly has the temperament to lead the BRE.”
Mr. Wan is a former member of the Atlanta City Council including being elected as President Pro Tempore by the City Council. He has legislative government experience and was appointed as Chair of City Utilities, Finance Executive and Zoning Committees. Currently Mr. Wan is the Executive Director of Horizons Atlanta.
Mr. Wan will fill the unexpired term of Mary Carole Cooney which expires on June 30, 2021.
