Captain Loui raised the bar on Viet Cajun seafood cooking

A “new” Viet Cajun place is raising the bar on the quality of Louisiana's spicy seafood with a blend of Vietnamese flavors. Capt Loui is the new management and replaces the former Loui Loui Restaurant, located on the outskirt of Gwinnett Place Mall on Satellite Boulevard.

The restaurant has a great vibe and decor with a full bar located near the entrance. The bar serves a variety of cocktails, liquors, and beers. Prices are reasonable compared to other bar establishments nearby.

I decided to try the “Boiler”, essentially seafood of choice which comes with half of a corn and potato. Seafood of choices are ranging from lobster, king crab, dungeness crab, snow crab, live crawfish, clams, shrimp (head on or off), mussels, and blue crab.

My choice was an order of shrimp with head on with extra spiciness.

You may choose either lemon pepper or Capt Loui Special sauce for flavoring. There are four levels of spiciness heat from mild to extra hot. You could also add extra sides to the bag with boiled calamari, sausages, noodles, corn or potato.

I recommend trying an order of Jambalaya, a rich stew cooked with chicken and andouille sausages served with white rice.

The head-on shrimp is served in a plastic bag with a set of gloves and bib. You will need the bib and gloves to avoid the chilly oil and sauces of messing up your hands.

Captain Loui sauces is tasty and not over powering. It has a right balance of tanginess and sweetness. Unlike other Viet Cajun restaurants which tends to over flavored with fish sauce.

The head-on shrimp is fresh and steamed to perfection. You definitely need to suck on the shrimp head to extract the tasty succulent from it.

I plan to return for lunch and dinner to try their Po-boys or fried baskets. They have special lunch promotions with fifty cents wings on Monday, a dollar raw oyster on Tuesday, and $19.95 lobster on Wednesday.

Captain Loui is open daily from 11:30 am until 10:00 pm daily and until 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.
