The Asian American and Pacific Islander community of Georgia mourns the passing of Shandry Law, a gifted entrepreneur, generous philanthropist and devoted community builder, who passed away Sept 23 at 10:30 am after a long battle with illness.
With her husband, Goodwin Law, Shandry built Farmer’s Basket Restaurant into a beloved Atlanta institution. Its farm-to-table comfort food became a fixture in malls across the metro area, including Lenox Square, Perimeter Mall and Peachtree Center. The restaurants fed countless Atlantans and provided livelihoods for many families. They also showed what hard work and vision could achieve for immigrant entrepreneurs in Georgia.
Her success in business was matched by her generosity. Shandry gave her time, resources and leadership to a remarkable number of organizations. She served as President of the Chinese-Americans Lions Club of Atlanta and held leadership roles with the Chinese Community Center, OCA-Georgia, the Atlanta Restaurant Association and the Kwong Tung Association of Atlanta. She sat on the boards of the National Association of Chinese Americans, the Chinese Business Association of Atlanta and the Hong Kong Association of Atlanta. As Chairwoman and patron of the Chinese American Cultural Performing Group, she helped keep cultural traditions alive and shared them with the wider community.
Her impact was recognized many times. Georgia Asian Times named her one of the 25 Most Influential Asian Americans in Georgia in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. It is a rare distinction that reflects how consistently and deeply she served.
Those who knew Shandry remember her ever smiling charm, warmth, humor, tireless energy. She raised funds for causes she believed in and showed up for her community year after year. She always made room for others at the table.
Shandry is survived by Her husband and two sons.
