Jon Ossoff’s campaign team hires Cam Ashling as AAPI Outreach Director

Atlanta, Dec 1, 2020 – Jon Ossoff's campaign for Senate has announced its hiring of Cam Ashling as its Asian American and Pacific Islander Constituency Outreach Director. Ashling, a longtime Democratic activist who also served as a member of the Georgia Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for Biden-Harris leadership council, immigrated to Georgia in 1988 as a political refugee from Vietnam. In addition to being a community activist, she is a small business owner and single mom of a three year-old.

An anti-corruption journalist and media executive, Ossoff is running to ensure every Georgian has great health care, invest in infrastructure and clean energy, strengthen civil rights and voting rights laws, and reform America’s corrupt campaign finance system. He is running against incumbent Senator David Perdue, who has been dogged all year by controversy and accusations of corruption over his well-timed stock trades.

Ashling will lead the campaign's efforts to reach out to and mobilize the Asian American community in Georgia, a top priority for the Ossoff campaign. Asian American voters are a key part of the electorate in the state. Asian American turnout in the 2020 election nearly doubled since the 2016 election.

Ossoff has committed to meeting directly with Asian American voters in Georgia as he campaigns across the state. Tomorrow, December 2nd, Ossoff will be hosting a meet and greet with members of the community at an Asian American-owned small business in Decatur. Ossoff will highlight the toll of the pandemic on working families and small businesses, particularly businesses owned by Georgians of color.

Organizers and volunteers are working to ensure Asian American voters know about important dates, such as the voter registration deadline on December 7th, and the beginning of early voting on December 14th.
