Washington DC, Oct 27, 2020 – The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has once again delayed a final verdict between LG Chem and SK Innovation, two of Korea's largest electric vehicle battery makers.
A final verdict was originally scheduled for Oct 5 but it got delayed until Oct 26. The verdict has now been rescheduled to Dec 10.
SK Innovation, the 3rd largest EV battery maker in Korea and has a plant investment in Georgia, has been in a legal dispute with LG Chem for over a year. LG Chem, the world's largest battery maker has accused SK Innovation of stealing its technology and trade secrets.
ITC announced a preliminary ruling in favor of LG Chem back in February 2020. ITC had determined that SK Innovation had destroyed evidence.
Both LG Chem and SK Innovation have made huge investments in Michigan and Georgia respectively. LG operates an EV battery plants in Holland, Michigan and is currently building a joint venture factory in Rosetown, Ohio, in partnership with General Motors.
SK Innovation has two battery plants under construction in Georgia. Both projects promoted by Georgia's state officials as among the region’s largest foreign investment ever.
