Duluth, December 12, 2023 – The Korean American Coalition in partnership with Council of Korean Americans and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea-Atlanta, hosted a fireside chat forum entitled “Korean American Community-Progress, Problems & Paradoxes”.
The forum attracted business executives, community leaders and elected officials to learn more of the challenges and issues facing Korean Americans communities in the US.

Abraham Kim, PhD, Executive Director of Council of Korean American, a national leadership organization advancing the Korean American community delivers the opening remarks.
“There is not enough data collected on the multi-ethnic AAPI and Korean American communities in this country. We hope to create awareness of the importance of data collection on AAPI and Korean American communities,” said Kim.
Neil G. Ruiz, Head of New Research Initiatives, Pew Research Center, the evening's guest speaker shared some of the latest research data on AAPI communities across the nation.
Among the highlights of his research data indicates:
– Median household income varies widely among Asian Americans
– Korean American households ranked high amongst the top earners category amongst AAPI community
– About one-third of U.S. Asians know another Asian person who's been threatened or attacked since Covid-19
– Asian Americans’ experiences with discrimination in their daily lives
– Discrimination experiences shape most Asian Americans’ lives
– Asian Americans hold mixed views around affirmative action
– Asian voters in the U.S. tend to be Democratic, but Vietnamese American voters are an exception
– Most Asian Americans view their ancestral homelands favorably, except Chinese Americans
– Asian American voters prioritize candidates’ policy positions over their racial identity
Ruiz had shared that the research reports on AAPI communities will be released to the general public for free in 2024. Some of the research reports are currently available on the Pew Research Center website.
