Atlanta, August 17, 2021 – Governor Brian Kemp criticized President Biden and its administration handling of U.S. withdrawal and the total collapsed of US-backed Afghan government. Fear of reprisals of Afghan citizens who have helped U.S. troops by Talibans.

“Joe Biden has broken his word to the nation, the Afghans and the world, but we as Americans cannot break our word to those who lent aid to us in our mission to defend freedom and bring justice to those who attacked our country on September 11,” said Kemp.

“It is vitally important to keep those who partnered with American armed forces over the last 20 years safe from harm,” he said in a released statement.

“Joe Biden’s failure to protect American citizens and our allies in Afghanistan is a stain on our nation. His administration’s lack of preparation and disastrous evacuation is now putting countless lives in serious danger from the Taliban. It is vitally important to keep those who partnered with American armed forces over the last 20 years safe from harm. Joe Biden has broken his word to the nation, the Afghans, and the world, but we as Americans cannot break our word to those who lent aid to us in our mission to defend freedom and bring justice to those who attacked our country on September 11.”

Republican governors in Maryland, Massachusetts, Utah, and South Carolina, as well as a number of Democratic leaders, have expressed willingness to accept refugees. Top Republican candidates in Georgia have also called for the state to accept allies who are now seeking safe passage to the United States.

Kemp joined a growing number of bipartisan governors who are open to accepting Afghan refugees after U.S. troop withdrawal.
