Atlanta, June 14, 2022 – Mayor Andre Dickens host its inaugural roundtable discussion with AAPI community leaders at the Old Council Chamber at the Atlanta City Hall. Mayor Dickens hope engagement with AAPI leaders will lead to better understanding for his office to provide services to the AAPI community.
“The fact that we have a lot of people with different backgrounds in the city. We are also a cultural epicenter and a fast changing demographic. The concept of drawing circles and bringing people in is what we’re talking about,” explains Mayor Dickens of the city’s latest campaign “ISpeakATL”.
Various topics ranging from affordable housing, equity and diversity in workforce, and public safety were discussed at the hour long meeting. Several key points such as data tracking of anti-Asian hate crimes in Atlanta and diversity of Atlanta City workforce were noted by the Mayor in the meeting.
Over a dozen AAPI community leaders representing diverse ethnic communities and non-profits community organizations such as GAPABA, Advancing Justice Atlanta, We Love Buford Highway, Raksha, CPACS participated at the event.
The Mayor’s office plans to host more community engagement discussions with AAPI community in Atlanta in the near future.
