Buford, Oct 9, 2018 – Gwinnett County administrators officially launched a $60 million Water Innovation Center near the existing Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center and F. Wayne Water Rescue Center in Buford.
Gwinnett officials claimed that there aren’t existing facility like it in the world. The 60,000 sf center will be a hub of research, education, and business incubators.
“We see the potential of the Water Innovation Center and it can play an important part in economic development in Gwinnett. It could possibly be a “Silicon Valley” on water innovation,” said John Heard, a Gwinnett’s Board of Commissioner.
Gwinnett officials is hopeful that the Center will attract researchers and innovators from around the world. The Center will offer space for research institution and water-related organizations to study water-related projects. There will also be a business incubator for startup business related with the water ecosystem.
“This is one of those things that while it’s fun and certainly exciting to be a part of, we also know it’s going to serve a very important purpose, not just for Gwinnett County, but for a broader area too,” Gwinnett County commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash said.
The facility is expected to be completed within three years and an opening is projected around October 2021.
