Norcross, July 27, 2018 – The American Korean Friendship Society hosted a Korean War Commemoration Ceremony at the Korean American Community Center honoring Korean War veterans for their sacrifices.
The ceremony also recognizes the 740 Georgian residents who has served the country during the Korean War from 1950-1953.
“We appreciate and honor the sacrifices made by the Korean War veterans who had given their lives to protect Korea during the war. Korea is the only country which remembers and honor the contribution made by American troops,” said Sunny K. Park, the lead organizer of the event and President of Korean American Friendship Society.
Consul General Young-Jun Kim delivers a greeting message on behalf of Republic of Korea’s government. “Our government expressed thanks and gratitude for your sacrifices for our country. We hope the recent Korea Summit in Singapore will bring peace to the peninsula soon,” said the Consul General Kim in his remarks.
The keynote address was delivered by Gary Black, Commissioner of Georgia’s Department of Agriculture.
Brigadier General Reginald Neal of the Georgia National Guard delivers an inspiring remark and thanks to the veterans.
A formal wreath laying ceremony was held at the ceremony with wreaths contributed by Republic of Korea Consulate Office, Korean War Veterans Chapter, Raymond Davis Atlanta Chapter, Gainesville Chapter, Rome Chapter, Atlanta Rotary Club, Korean American Association off Greater Atlanta, USO Georgia, and American Korean Friendship Society.
The Korean War veterans at the ceremony also receive a single rose flower and hugs from a Korean youth in honor for the contribution.
