A popular cold winter dish among Asians to savor is the Hot Pot. There are numerous version of hot pot restaurants in metro Atlanta. There are Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese style hot pot restaurants.
HQ BBQ & Hot Pot opened its door in Duluth last August. This restaurant has gained traction among its customers due to its social media promotions and pricing. The latest promo offers $3 off $19.95 lunch and $5 discount for the $29.99 dinner.
I decided to bring a friend to check out the Hot Pot offering during lunch. We decided to skip the BBQ side of the menu. For a flat price, this is an all you can eat buffet version of hot pot.
They offer several versions of soup broths: Miso, Hot & Spicy or Pork Bone Broth (TonKatsu) versions. I chose the Pork Bone Broth and my friend chose the Hot & Spicy. These broths are quite tasty and natural. The broths are also not heavily overladen with MSG.
You pick and choose the variety of fresh vegetables, seafood, meat, meat balls, fish balls and tofu at the buffet table. There are also mussels, squid, shrimps, and fish slices for the Hot Pot.
Anytime you are running low on soup broths, you could ask the waiter to refill.
The restaurant service staffs are attentive and speedy in their service. They also help to explain the process in great detail.
You choose and mix your own dipping sauce at the buffet line. There are a variety of condiments including green scallions, garlic, sesame oil, and a wide range of sauces including peanut, ponzu, a range of spicy sauces, and mixtures.
I find the menu prices are reasonable. The selections are fresh and tasty.
If you ever have the knack for hot pot in these cold winter months, this restaurant is worthy of consideration.
