Walking into the new establishment of “Jang Su Jang” located in Alpharetta, is unlike any other Korean restaurants in the area.
Instead of the traditional Korean decor at its Duluth sister’s location, you’ll be greeted by an upscale, modern interior design, catering to the vibes of new Alpharetta.
Although the interior may be alluring, with its modern contemporary design, it does not capture the essence of Jang Su Jang’s food reputation.
The “Soondubu Jjigae” a common Korean tofu soup, was satisfying at most. However, the portion of tofu in the hot bowl is significantly less than you would find in Duluth.
It only served with steam white rice; unlike the popular Korean purple rice that’s available in Duluth.
The “Banchan”, also known as side dishes, were exceptionally of high standard and high quality, prepped daily and are fresh products.
You will also notice that the signature roasted barley warm tea is not being served here. Instead, you are served with plain water.
Service is less attentive and you will not find the service of an efficient Korean waitress here.
Prices of the menu reflect Alpharetta pricing – it’s significantly higher by about 20 percent compared to the Duluth location.
As a fan of the brand, I hope the new location will correct its kinks and get back to Jang Su Jang’s standard.
Perhaps the management plan to move away from the “old” into the “modern”, which in my humble opinion would be a mistake.
