IRS Rolls Out Digital Tax Compliance Report for Faster, Safer Verification

Washington DC, August 20, 2026 — Taxpayers now have a quicker way to prove they’re square with the IRS. The agency this week rolled out a new digitally authenticated Tax Compliance Report, which taxpayers can generate directly from their IRS Individual Online Account.

The report is built for moments when someone needs to show proof of tax compliance ranging from applying for a job, taking out a loan, or seeking a government benefit, for instance. Rather than requesting paperwork and waiting on the IRS to mail it, taxpayers can log in, generate the report, and download it on the spot.

What sets it apart from older verification documents is a built-in digital certificate. Banks, government agencies, and other organizations that receive the report can use that certificate to confirm it’s genuine and hasn’t been altered. It is a safeguard that also helps protect taxpayers’ personal information.

“By providing a secure, digitally authenticated report, the IRS is making it easier for taxpayers to access and share important information while protecting privacy and data integrity,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank Bisignano.

A few things make the new report stand out: each one carries an IRS-issued digital certificate confirming it’s authentic, with verification tools built directly into the file rather than added on separately. Taxpayers can pull up and download their report anytime through their online account, with no phone calls or office visits required. And because every report follows the same authentication standard, anyone receiving one from a lender, an agency, an employer will knows exactly what to check.
