Atlanta, March 8, 2022 – Gov. Brian Kemp announced that he is working with local legislators to temporarily drop the fuel tax in Georgia. Gov. Kemp's posted his remark on his Twitter feed following President Biden's announcement to ban Russian oil and gas imports.
Gov. Kemp said he hopes to expedite the motion through Georgia's House and Senate to help ease the burden of rising gas prices on Georgia families.
Georgia Department of Revenue currently collects 0.291 cents per gallon for gasoline and 0.326 for diesel sold in Georgia.
“Because of our strong, fiscally conservative budgeting, I’m confident we will be able to provide relief to hardworking Georgians – both in the form of a tax refund and lower gas taxes,” said Gov. Kemp.
