Atlanta, Janaury 20, 2023 – State Representative Soo Hong (R-Lawrenceville) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 9, 2023, marking her first day of the 2023-2024 legislative term. Monday was the first day of the first term of the 157th Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly.
“I appreciate the confidence that Speaker Burns and the Committee on Assignments have in me to appoint me as Vice Chairman of the House Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, along with a placement in both the Judiciary and Judiciary Non-Civil committees,” said Rep. Hong. “I understand the importance of the work of these committees, and I look forward to using my knowledge and skills to being a contributing member of these committees.”
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Hong as the Vice Chairman of the Reapportionment & Redistricting Committee. She also serves as one of the Governor’s Floor Leaders and as a member of the Judiciary and Judiciary Non-Civil committees.
The Reapportionment & Redistricting Committee is responsible for drawing the boundaries of Georgia’s State House, State Senate and U.S. House districts, based on population data from the latest decennial U.S. Census.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
