Guest Editorial: Biden an economic disaster for Asian Pacific Americans

Biden pledges appeal of ‘deeply disappointing’ DACA ruling

This holiday season, higher prices and a stagnant economy have hit home for Asian Pacific American families as a result of Joe Biden and the Democrats. Going to school, shopping for groceries, and filling your tank have become unaffordable as the cost of school supplies, food, and gas have skyrocketed. Asian Pacific Americans will be left behind as long as Joe Biden and the Democrats are in power and it is time to stand up against their radical policies by voting Republican.

Sending kids to school is more expensive in Biden’s America. This year parents are forced to spend 7% more on school supplies, shelling out hundreds of dollars, with some families going into debt to make sure their kids have the right tools for their education. For many frugal Asian Pacific American families, dollar stores are an essential source of school supplies where they can get notebooks, pencils, and erasers at a good price. Not any more. Dollar stores are permanently raising prices by 25% due to inflation under Joe Biden, further pinching family budgets.

Some schools here in Georgia are even seeing school lunches put in jeopardy by high prices and the ongoing supply chain crisis. Rising prices leave less money in the pockets of Asian Pacific Americans. This is unacceptable to our community. Education is the most important tool for our children to achieve success and higher prices put many families in jeopardy of not being able to afford basic supplies.

It’s not only school supplies that cost more. Prices for everyday necessities keep going up the longer that Democrats are in power. Compared to a year ago, rent is up almost 20%, the cost of food is up over 5%, and heating your home this winter could cost up to a whopping 54% more. These higher prices are more acute in areas with higher Asian Pacific American populations. Gas prices are hitting record highs in Democrat-run cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles and this trend is creeping into cities like Las Vegas and here in Atlanta.

Instead of helping Americans, Democrats are throwing fuel on the fire by calling for more reckless spending and higher taxes with their nearly $2 trillion Build Back Broke bill. This comes even as liberal economists warn spending trillions more will only exacerbate inflation. Democrat failures lead to record high prices, costing Asian Pacific Americans more when they can afford it the least.

Heading into the holiday season, Joe Biden delivered the worst jobs report of his presidency, leaving 6.9 million Americans still unemployed. Asian Pacific Americans across the country are working harder for less money as real wages plummet and consumer confidence hit a new low. If Joe Biden wants to learn how to get Asian Pacific Americans back to work, he should look to Republican governors.

According to Labor Department data, 17 of the top 20 states for jobs recovered since the coronavirus pandemic began have Republican governors (including Georgia) and the 10 states with the lowest unemployment are all Republican-led. Democrats continue to fail on the economy and will continue to fail the longer they are in power. Republicans provide solutions, not empty rhetoric, and our policies deliver jobs and economic security.

The Asian Pacific American community is falling behind because of Joe Biden and the Democrats. We are paying more for everything and seeing our hard-earned paychecks shrink due to inflation. Going to school, the most important part of our children’s future, costs more than ever, pushing family budgets to the brink. Asian Pacific Americans know we can do better than Biden’s failing economic agenda. That’s why we need to elect more Republicans in 2022 to implement commonsense conservative policies and get America back to work.
