South Korea’s KOTRA opens office in Atlanta

Atlanta, Oct 26, 2018 — In conjunction of the official launch of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) office in Atlanta, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and World Affairs Council of Atlanta hosted a discussion panel on “Expanding Opportunities for Business in South Korea” at the Buckhead Club.

Consul General Young-jun Kim delivers the opening remark at the luncheon.  The discussion panel included Dev Ahuja, CFO, Novelis Inc., Tom Croteau, Deputy Commissioner, Georgia Department of Economic Development, and Jeff McCorstin, President of Global Customs Brokerage, UPS. Craig Lesser moderated the panel discussion.

“There are currently over 90 South Korean companies operating in Georgia and employs over 15,000 employees,” said Tom Croteau, Deputy Commissioner of Georgia Department of Economic Development.

He also stressed the importance of Seoul-Atlanta direct flight connections in generating positive economic linkage between South Korea and Georgia.

“South Korea is technologically advanced and has a highly motivated workforce. The ‘can do spirit' powers the Korean economy to becoming an economic powerhouse in Asia,” said Dev Ahuja, CFO, Novelis.

Jeff McCorstin shared UPS philosophy pf employing the local country managers in managing its local business in South Korea. “By employing the locals as country managers, you could resolve a lot of business culture issues quickly,” said McCorstin.

The luncheon panel is final in series of the Consulate General of Korea's 50th year celebration of Korean immigration to metro Atlanta.
