Atlanta, April 17, 2017 — Anther major highway in metro Atlanta was forced to shut down due to the road buckle on Monday morning. Traffic on westbound traffic was diverted to I-285.
An underground gas leak caused the road to buckle, according to DeKalb County Police. A crew was replacing a gas line and was filling the outdated pipe with cement, that caused the pressure to build up. It caused the pipe to burst and the highway to buckle.
The repair has been estimated to take about 24 hours, according to the repair crew.
A motorcyclist was injured when the incident happened. He suffered multiple fractures and a broken leg at the time of report. The motorcyclist was treated at an area hospital area.
