19-hour SWAT standoff ended with death to Vietnamese man and 2-year old son

Buford, January 6, 2016 — Gwinnett Police confirmed that Thy Anh Ho and his 2-year old son that he held hostage have died tragically after a 19-hour armed standoff at Beyers Landing subdivision.

Thy Ho, 43 shot himself and his son Philip Nguyen died from gunshot would inflicted by Ho.

Ho and the boy was rushed to hospitals around 4:30 pm with life threatening injuries.

The boy was flown by helicopter to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where he later died of his injuries.

As SWAT members entered the master bedroom, the suspect shot himself, according to Cpl. Michele Pihera, Gwinnett County Police spokesperson.

The incident began with an argument between the man and his girlfriend, parents of the baby, before the woman’s teenage son from a previous relationship dialed 911 late Tuesday night, Cpl. Pihera said.

Police said the son said Ho was threatening to shoot everyone in the home and then commit suicide. But the son and his mother were released soon after the incident began.

During the standoff, the subdivision was blocked off and people residing in the neighborhood were urged to take shelter in their homes, keeping away from doors and windows, police said.
