GAT: Is this your first visit to Atlanta?

HM: Yes, this is my first visit to Atlanta. As matter of fact, i just arrived from the airport about two hours ago. I have been in the U.S. for the past three weeks visiting New York, New Jersey, Minnesota Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.

GAT: What is the objective of your trip to the United States and Atlanta?

HM: Basically, I am attending to the services of the church and sings at the church that I visited. In a spiritual way, I hope to discover new things. I would like to give encouragement and moral support to indonesians who faces daily challenges in their lives here.

GAT: What have you discovered so far on your trip?

HM: I found out that the Indonesian community in America have made a lot of personal sacrifice to be able to live in this country. i have heard so many “touching” personal stories from individuals who struggled and endured to live in this country. My goal is to provide encouragement and to provide motivation to these folks.

GAT: Where do your spiritual side comes from?

HM: I have to thank my parents for it. They have done a good job raising me from young to always give back to the Lord.

GAT: What is your impression of the current Indonesian music scene?

HM: Hmmm ... the quantity is there but the quality is not. Bands are very popular nowadays in Indonesia; however, there are not too many talented single performers. The local music industry is not as vibrant as ten years ago. Nowadays, ‘one hit wonder’ seems to be the norm.

GAT: What is your latest exciting project?

HM: I am currently planning to record a spiritual album. This would be the first time I am doing it. I have been known for my work in jazz and soul in the past. I have been planning for this album for about five years. It would be very special as it require full passion and commitment from the heart. I hope to have the album ready by next year.

GAT: What are you listening to on your iPod?

HM: CeCe Winans, Luis Miguel, and Luther Vandross.

GAT: Who are your favorite Western singers?

HM: Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonders.

GAT: When will you be visiting the U.S. again?

HM: I hope to come back soon by next year. Hopefully, to continue the Lord’s work and to provide moral support to Indonesians living in this country.
