Nam Phuong: Tasty Flavors of Vietnam
By Mark Ho Posted January 30, 2010
I was recently introduced to a new restaurant in Norcross by a Vietnamese friend. Nam Phuong is located at the far end corner of shopping complex adjacent to Hong Kong Supermarket on Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Owners of the restaurant made their mark in Philadelphia and they have recently opened their first restaurant in the South last October.
This restaurant is pleasantly decorated and has an airy comfortable ambiance. First thing you will notice here is the large selections of the menu. You will need a good ten minutes to study details of the menu thoroughly.
Apart from the standard vermicelli rice noodles, pho noodle soup, and broken rice dishes, you will readily find authentic Vietnamese dishes such as lotus root salad with pork.
Dishes served here are fresh, tasty, healthy and cooked with authentic flavors. Diners are mostly Vietnamese and mainstream foodie are beginning to discover this place.
Summer rolls with shrimp and crab ($4.95) is a must try appetizer here. The sweet dark hoisin sauce with peanuts give the roll an extra punch in the mouth.
For the adventurous, do not miss the grilled/roasted quails ($7.50). The grilled quail with aromatic smoky flavor is perfect when dipped in fine salt and black pepper combination.
Beef sauteed with spicy lemongrass sauce ($8.95) “Bo Xao Sa Ot” is an entree not to be missed. The beef is tender and has a wonderful texture cooked with the spicy lemon grass sauce. It goes well with a serving of steamed white jasmine rice.
Caramelized cat fish fillet in clay pot “Ca Kho To” ($8.95) is tastefully cooked to perfection. This dish brings out the best of Vietnamese cooking - sweet, sour, salty flavors that blends perfectly as one.
Spicy Salt and Pepper Squid “Muc Rang Muoi” ($8.95) is lightly fried and has a bouncy texture. You can taste the squid and the spicy light crunch makes you eager for more.
My only complaint about this place is the daily house specials are being displayed in Vietnamese language only.
This place also offers family dinner set with value prices starting from $24.95 for two, $46.95 family dinner for four, and $99.95 for family dinner for eight.
Simply said, Nam Phuong offers the best value and authentic Vietnamese cuisines in metro Atlanta. Come early as this place is busy especially on weekends.
